The majority of the
core modules will be completed in year 1 and they will be
CUSTOMISED to the client’s “situation” in
face-to-face workshops. Participants will be put into
ACTION LEARNING “SETS”, that is, small groups who will
meet regularly to share experiences and help each other
with the learning process and the individual projects. A
one week workshop will be held at the end of year 1.
In year 2 individuals
will choose 4 electives and begin their dissertation. They
will carry on meeting in their action learning sets and
with their PDP assignments. The focus of year 2 will be on
using the IMPLEMENTATION SKILLS that individuals
will have developed to produce measurable improvements in
organisational performance in the departments they control
and in their wider organisations. Towards the end of year
2, a further one week workshop will be held to integrate
the whole programme.
INDIVIDUAL PROJECTS
The written
assignments from each core module will be integrated into
an individual project done by everyone. This aims at
identifying obstacles to achieving performance excellence
and defining a BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT PLAN (BIP) for
the areas of business they manage, using the knowledge
they gain from the workshops. They will then implement
this BIP during the programme and learn about managerial
excellence and their personal competencies from their
experiences of analysis, synthesis and action.
This project acts as
an integrator of the programme and a vehicle for
transferring knowledge into action in the workplace. In
year 2 this can become the MBA project or indeed another
more specialised subject may be studied. One-to-one
TUTORIALS are provided in addition to a workshop on
how to collect and analyse data.
THE PERSONAL
DEVELOPMENT PLAN (PDP)
The PDP will identify
the student’s strengths and weaknesses as a manager and
will be the vehicle through which individuals will remove
their weaknesses and increase their strengths during the
programme.
One of the biggest
obstacles to organisational success is the inability of
many mangers to create a climate of innovation and
CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT, where staff are committed to
give of their best. This obstacle is compounded by the
reluctance of mangers to admit to weaknesses in the
critical area of leadership and people management.
In the PDP the
Programme Director works with each individual to define
their managerial weaknesses and to remove them during the
programme. Models of managerial and leadership competence
are presented, records of learning experiences documented
and techniques of LIFELONG LEARNING featured.
INDIVIDUAL TUTORIALS are given by the Programme
Director. |
